William Bollard was born in Auckland in 1861. Bollard studied art in Sydney and Melbourne and recorded exhibition dates suggest he may have lived in Australia between 1887 and 1895 and again between 1897 and 1900. Between 1888 and 1896 he exhibited several landscapes with the Auckland Society of Arts. He later moved to Dunedin, from where he continued to exhibit at the A.S.A. between 1901 and 1915, although by that time he was he was mainly exhibiting portraits and was listed as a Dunedin member. He exhibited with the Otago Society of Arts from 1905, and also taught from this time onwards. He died in Dunedin in 1941. Examples of Bollard’s paintings are held in the Hocken Collection, Dunedin. |
