Douglas Badcock was born in Balclutha, Otago in 1922 and educated at Palmerston North District High School. He is a ‘plein air’ (open air) painter, painting on-site in watercolour and oil. Two large-format volumes of his paintings have been published: My Kind of Country and My Kind of Painting. He was a regular exhibitor in the Kelliher Art Awards and won 1st prize in 1965 with his landscape Head of Lake Wakatipu and 2nd prizes in 1957 and 1959. Badcock is a highly collectable New Zealand landscape artist. |
